Ultra Running Guide for Everyone

By a regular runner, for regular runners.

Job. Family. Miles when life allows.

Why this site exists

Most ultra advice assumes unlimited time, a coach budget, and a perfect training calendar. Real life is messier. This site is for people balancing work and family who still want to finish a first 50K without pretending they are professionals.

Who’s writing

I’m Adam. I live in the Cincinnati area with my wife and our three kids. I teach. I run when life leaves room for it. I finished my first ultra in March 2026, an 8-hour timed event on home trails in Batavia. I’ve done a trail 50K-ish since then and I’ve also DNF’d. Both matter. This site exists because most of us are not full-time athletes. We have jobs, kids, sore backs and an hour on a good day. Ultra running still belongs to us. I’m a veteran. That part of my life taught me how to keep moving when conditions are ugly and the plan falls apart. It did not make me fast. It made me stubborn in a useful way.

I built Ultra Running for Everyone as a guide I wished existed when I started: gear that actually works, training that survives a real week, and races you can finish without selling the house. Last year’s shoes still go the distance. Consistency still beats a perfect plan!

What this is not

Medical advice, coaching contracts, or elite secrets. If something hurts in a bad way, talk to a clinician. Use the guides as a starting framework and adapt them to your body and calendar.
